CRSSD Returns To San Diego’s Waterfront Park March 5 and 6 Presented by FNGRS CRSSD
San Diego’s CRSSD Festival today revealed the dates for its 2016 Spring Edition returning March 5 and 6 to the city’s amazing Waterfront Park.
Although CRSSD only debuted this year, it has carved a distinct voice in the cluttered California festival market. It’s unique oceanfront location nestled on the steps of San Diego’s City Hall offers an intimate festival experience, with grassy stages, incredible sunset views over the ocean, planes soaring overhead and an unmatched downtown location, just steps from public transport.
More than its location, it is CRSSD adventurous booking policy that has turned the most heads. Rather than following the traditional EDM fare, CRSSD doubled down on edgy, experimental beatmakers, live acts and DJs – the likes of Ben Klock, Maceo Plex, Jamie Jones, DJ Harvey, Simian Mobile Disco, Nicolas Jaar, DJ Tennis, Bicep, Jamie XX, Bonobo, have all featured alongside Odesza, Chromeo, Empire Of The Sun, James Murphy, Todd Terje, Giorgio Moroder and many more. It was a statement of musical intent that immediately marked CRSSD as a unique festival experience in California.
CRSSD Festival offers craft beer, an extensive mixology program and a wide array of local food vendors to its 21+ attendees.

The 11th annual gathering also brings new early arrival optionsand festival additions. Wednesday and Thursday of LIB 2016 will be primarily devoted to setting up camp, meeting neighbors, and getting the lay of the land. The Temple of Consciousness, Village and Learning Kitchen will be the main focus during the day on Wednesday, hosting speakers, workshops, yoga and classes with special celebrations in the evenings. The Grand Artique will also be in full effect on Wednesday with their signature brand of frontier trading and shenanigans. Music will be added in on Thursday via the Favela and Pagoda Bar with Friday opening up to the rest of the stages and festival activities. With so many participants already acclimated and fully reeling in the LIB vibes, Do LaB hopes the entire festival experience will be electrified with more connective energy than ever before.
Those who wish to take advantage of the newly-extended LIB 2016 experience will have the option to add on an Early Arrival Pass to a 4 Day Weekend Pass purchase granting entry at noon on Wednesday, May 25th. This pass will be available during the 24 hour flash ticket sale, and is expected to go quickly. With the Early Arrival pass comes first dibs on campsites in the brand new centralized High Grounds Camp, located directly across the road from the main festival grounds, featuring an incredible view of the festival and providing the shortest campground walk to many primary festival attractions. Car camping is available in the High Grounds camp with the purchase of a Car Camping Pass. Early arrival RV Camping Passes will be available for the RV Campground. All other venue campgrounds will open up with the gates on Thursday.
To get inspired for LIB 2016, watch the newly released Official Lightning in a Bottle 2015 Video created by Media Stranger, featuring cameos from RL Grime, Zion I, Goldroom, avant-garde electro circus troupe Lucent Dossier Experience, and live art installations by Jef Logan among beautiful moments of festival attendees and the land. The video is only a small testament to what lies ahead at Lightning in a Bottle 2016.
Also new to 2016, Do LaB is proud to premiere the visionary video series Lightning Talks carefully curated from 2015’s Temple of Consciousness, Village, and Learning Kitchen lectures, workshops and speakers including Dennis McKenna and Dream Rockwell of the Lucent Dossier Experience. In years past the only way to witness these magical talks was by attending the festival in person, now you can relive the talk that changed your life or listen to a speaker you were dying to see but missed. By signing up for Lightning Talks, you’ll receive a new video every Tuesday from one of 2015’s highly talented presenters, sharing knowledge in the worlds of science, creativity, spirituality, love, media, healing, philosophy, and more! For many of us in Southern California, the festival season concluded in early November with the winter installment of Desert Hearts. Lucky for us, the Desert Hearts crew decided to keep the festival vibes strong through the winter season by announcing their second City Hearts – Winter is Coming Tour.
The first stop on the tour was at LA’s very own Belasco Theater this past Saturday night. Before walking in, we were presented with a beautiful metal Desert Hearts necklace. The crew decided to give away DH necklaces to the first 300 people to enter the event. Nothing says, “welcome to the Desert Hearts family,” than receiving one of their iconic DH necklaces. We went straight to the main floor and the vibes were strong. Everywhere you looked there was a special something happening that was absolutely captivating.
A giant multi-colored heart encompassed the DJs with a beautifully lit up CITY HEARTS sign below them. The stage production was similar to that of the festival. On both sides of the stage were platforms where some performed light shows and where others just danced their little booties off until 4am. Throughout the night, aerial performers took to the stage, soaring high above the DJs and crowd. Also hanging high above, were the on-screen visuals. They were well thought out, artfully done, and just as mesmerizing as the beats and the aerial performers.
As you looked in the crowd, you could see that the attendees did not treat Belasco as just another venue. They treated it as their (festival) home in the city. Many of the people were decked out in their festival gear and smiles. There were even totems. Yes, totems… in a small LA venue. They were official Desert Heart Totems and there were many for you to choose from. The DH crew brought them and set them against the walls for the crowd. Paintings and live art also lined the walls on the sides and in the back. The art was psychedelically spiritual and some of the most iconic art pieces were also screen printed on sweatshirts.
The tone set by the steady house and techno beats blended with the positive attitude of the crowd resulted in those iconic Desert Hearts vibes that everyone talks about. The set times for the night were:
9 Desert Hearts Crew
11 Lee Reynolds
3 Deep Jesus
Per usual, each DJ brought their personal style to the dance floor but kept the vibe steady. My personal favorite for the night was Lee Reynolds. He truly helped set the tone for the night and gave the dance floor that “home sweet home” feeling that all music lovers continuously search for. By the time Porkchop took the decks, the back of the stage was filled with people. Throughout the entire night the dance floor was never empty, and the groove was never-ending.
Ultimately, this night was just what you needed to keep your soul warm and cozy in the winter. If the City Hearts tour is making stop near you, you owe it to yourself to go.

“Life is all about balance. There is no light without darkness, there is no day without night, there is no good without bad … the yin and the yang. This mix explores these concepts and inspired me to start a mix series based on the yin and yang theory of life. The first edition to this series explores sounds that I love, but if you were to remove these tracks out of the mix and compare them to each other most would sound totally different emotionally. I think there’s something beautiful about that. This one leans more towards the Yin side of the theory … a little dark, a little earthy, deep, and great for winter weather. At the same time you will find beauty, light, and calmness within it. It has everything from deep house, techno, and rock to everything in-between. This is why the yin and yang theory inspired me to begin a series of mixes to express the various types of sounds I love so much and how they are all related to each other. I hope you enjoy the first edition <3” – Marbs
