LA’s FUNKtastic Voyage with Justin Jay & Friends

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Justin Jay has captured the ears of music lovers by producing some of the dirtiest beats and made his way into their hearts by being one of the friendliest DJs out there. Last Saturday night, Justin Jay played to a sold-out crowd at the Roxy for his the Fantastic Voyage tour. Naming the tour after Lakeside’s track “Fantastic Voyage,” Justin’s goal was to transform the funky, friendly and groovy nature of the song into an experience his fans would never forget. In the chorus it says, “Get on up and jam y’all, Come on and ride on the funk y’all, Come along and ride on a fantastic voyage.” That’s exactly what happened Saturday night – but I’d call it a FUNKtastic Voyage. He also wanted this tour to have the same intimacy of the house parties he has been throwing in LA. Justin wanted to make sure his fans felt more than just fans, but that they were his friends.

IMG_4950The space inside the Roxy was small, which provided the intimate feeling that Justin Jay was trying to maintain. Ulf Blonde, the producer behind the “Blossom for Me” EP, started the night off and was followed by fellow Dirtybird, Sacha Robotti. By the time Justin Jay took the to the decks, the dance floor was packed and ready. His friends joined him on-stage, throwing white sailor hats to some of the audience members. A man dressed in a whale costume was dancing around the stage and with audience. Also, a giant Jack in the Box cardboard cutout was brought up on stage – although I couldn’t tell why. Pretty soon the stage was packed with friends and even some audience members. Everyone, either on-stage or on the dance floor, was jumping around and getting down with huge smiles on their faces.

Justin’s set had this steady funky groove, varying from house to disco and more. Tracks he played for the night included his edit of “Whoomp,” “Rain Dance,” “Hit It,” and “Karma.” Vocalist, Josh Taylor, and guitarist, Benny Bridges, joined Justin on-stage to do a live performance of “Karma.” More musicians made appearances as well, playing the saxophone, trumpet, flute, bongos, synthesizer, and drums. Each musician was spotlighted for a short time during the set. While they were all playing, the crowd fed off their energy and you could truly see and feel what Justin Jay was trying to accomplish with this tour.

The entire night had the energy of a house party crossed with a fun-filled, funky jam session with your closest friends. If you missed the show, you can listen to the Fantastic Voyage house party mix that Justin Jay released prior to the tour. It fully captures the essence of his set that night.

Justin Jay Sets Sail to LA at The Roxy 2/27

This Saturday, Los Angeles based DJ and producer, Justin Jay, will be playing a sold out show at the Roxy for his beloved hometown. Vocalist, Josh Taylor, and guitarist, Benny Bridges, both of whom are featured on the track, “Karma,” will also accompany him.

This will be the second stop on the Fantastic Voyage Tour, which is scheduled to stop throughout North America and Australia. Justin Jay’s ultimate goal is to bring his well-known house party vibes on this tour. He mentioned,

“Over the past couple of months, I started throwing a bunch of house parties in LA. House parties are really special for DJ’s because we can play songs we normally never get to play: from the tracks that are too weird and quirky for the big clubs/festivals, to the songs that are too cheesy and feel good for the cool-kid warehouse shindigs.

I like pushing myself to play crazy forward thinking music, but by the end of the night, I also want everyone (including myself) smiling, laughing and having a good time. Sometimes the songs that make me smile the biggest are also cool in their own cheesy way.

‘Fantastic Voyage’ is a song by the funk band, Lakeside and the name of my tour. Listen to it, and you’ll know what I’m talking about.”

Within the past year, Justin Jay has thrown down some of the most memorable sets of 2015. Releases such as the Mom, I Graduated EP and Momentum EP have captured the attention and excited fans and industry peers alike. It is without a doubt that this tour will fully embody what Justin Jay is contributing to music scene today while also reflecting what he will bring in the future.

Check out his Fantastic Voyage House Party mix to get a taste of what’s to come!

Enchanted Forest Gathering Releases 2015 Recap Video

Known for continuously breaking the future elite of the underground with some of the biggest international names in bass music, Enchanted Forest Gathering is best characterized by four principles — uniting sacred, sexy, silly and saucy elements for an experience like none other! Previous lineup installments have boasted a standout musical roster featuring artists such as KOAN Sound, Random Rab, Liquid Stranger, Phutureprimitive, Ott, Papadosio, Desert Dwellers and Opiuo. This year’s lineup will be announced in March and will include over 50 artists across four stages.

To ignite your excitement for 2016, Enchanted Forest Gathering has released the 2015 After Video, produced by Megan Stone. The video showcases the plethora of activities that await surrounding the lush landscape of Black Oak Ranch.

Building upon a reputation for eclectic tastes in electronic and live music, Enchanted Forest Gathering has evolved into a festival that fosters the growth of the conscious movement community. What began as a renegade series of impromptu instruction has now become an interactive component of the festival experience as Enchanted Forest Gathering places yoga, dance and flow arts front-and-center, including a mini-flow arts festival as main fixture of the festival. Past teachers have included the world-renowned KK Ledford (Fire & Nectar, Order & Chaos ~ Asana and Astrology), Rigzin, Holly Baade/The Joyful Warrior, Forest Schrodt, Jonathan Livingston Baxter, Kandice Korves-Kaus, Nova and many more. This year’s stellar yoga, movement, and flow teachers will be announced in March along with the music lineup.

Additionally, Enchanted Forest Gathering plays host to a bold educational forum throughout the day including four types of workshop zones providing guests an opportunity to broaden their horizons in such subjects as Spirituality & Science, Nourishment & Nutrition, Sexuality & Relationships, and Permaculture & Ancestral Arts.

With a mere 245 attendees in 2010 to 3,000 anticipated this year, the rapid growth of Enchanted Forest Gathering speaks volumes to the festival’s unique offerings of innovative micro-environments and peak experiences. Revelers may find their journey leads them to interactive spaces, which include The Nectar Temple – a next level healing area, the late night tea lounge that features live jazz trios, and the Crystal Dome – an amalgamation of healing and wondrous stones collected from around the world, a late night comedy stage or the visionary art studio.

At its new larger home on Black Oak Ranch, the festival will expand its offerings to include a silent disco and day care services among other key additions. This is a perfect homage to the historical land of the Grateful Dead, Wavy Gravy, Earthdance Festival, and the famed Camp Winnarainbow.

Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming lineup announcements and more event news coming soon. Stay in the know with event updates by subscribing to the event newsletter via the website and be sure to RSVP through the Enchanted Forest Gathering 2016 Facebook event page!

San Diego’s CRSSD Festival today revealed the dates for its 2016 Spring Edition returning March 5 and 6 to the city’s amazing Waterfront Park.

Although CRSSD only debuted this year, it has carved a distinct voice in the cluttered California festival market. More than its location, it is CRSSD adventurous booking policy that has turned the most heads. Rather than following the traditional EDM fare, CRSSD doubled down on edgy, experimental beatmakers, live acts and DJs – the likes of Ben Klock, Maceo Plex, Jamie Jones, DJ Harvey, Simian Mobile Disco, Nicolas Jaar, DJ Tennis, Bicep, Jamie XX, Bonobo, have all featured alongside Odesza, Chromeo, Empire Of The Sun, James Murphy, Todd Terje, Giorgio Moroder and many more.
