SPLASH HOUSE JUNE 2016: Southern California’s Most Iconic Pool Party

It’s Summer time and for us Californians, that translates to festival and pool party season!  One of Southern California’s most iconic pool parties just took place this past weekend in Palm Springs and it was nothing short of a wet and wild adventure.

For those of you that are unaware of this awesome event, you might be asking, “What makes Splash House so iconic?” The answer is EVERYTHING. It is the perfect blend of a Vegas style pool party and an electronic music event that is located in the California desert.  Splash House is hosted at select hotels with the primary hotel being The Saguaro.  This year the additional hotel was the Riviera with two pools.  The event offers attendees special room packages with their ticket and I must say, if you want the FULL SPLASH HOUSE EXPERIENCE, you really should book a room at one of the hosting hotels.  You can still have more than a great time booking a room at a different and cheaper hotel, but there is nothing like being a part of an entire hotel party. The hotel comes alive with that Splash House festive spirit.

The musical roster of this sold out June 2016 edition included the like of Odesza, Justin Martin, Lee Foss, FKJ, Jai Wolf, Guy Gerber, Billy Kenny, Cut Snake, Nora En Pure, Christian Martin, StarRo, and so much more!  Bixel Boys were also on the roster playing three different set times throughout the weekend.  At night, there were a few after parties with the most notable ones having Justin Jay and Flight Facilities play over at the airport hanger.  With fun-filled lineup like that most of the weekend was spent pool hopping then straight to the after party to continue dancing! Most of my time was spent at the Riviera but I was able catch Lee Foss and Billy Kenny’s set at the Saguaro for a bit. Both sets provided a perfect poolside vibe and a packed dance floor.

Now last year when I attended both June and August, I spent most of my time on the dance floor. This year, I thought I should aim for a different experience. I spent most of my time in the pool where t-rex, unicorn and pizza floaties, water guns, and new friends surrounded me.  My favorite part and arguably one of the most iconic parts about Splash House, was when the music was so good that everyone in the pool started splashing to the music and water was flying everywhere.

When we left the Saguaro and hopped onto the shuttle, we entered the party bus atmosphere. Although it was packed with people and many had to stand, we ended up making friends with people and they invited us back to their room to party with them. That’s the other fun thing about Splash House, you make so many random friends and everyone invites people back to their room to drink for a bit. Personally, I cherish small run-in adventures like that.  This is probably one of the best events to meet new people in Southern California.

The entire weekend went off without a hitch. The weather was cooler than last year, the line up was fantastic, and the attendees were filled with nothing but a positive and friendly attitude. Now, we are counting down the days until the August 2016 edition!

August Splash House was Floatie Heaven!

The second installment of Splash House took place this past weekend at the Saguaro, the Hard Rock hotel, and the Hilton in Palm Springs. For those who don’t know about the multi-venue event, in short, it is the ultimate California pool party.

Now in its third year, Splash House has become one of the more notable Southern California events of the summer.  Starting in 2013 as a one weekend event and eventually expanding to two weekends, Splash House has taken place at a few different venues (Hard Rock Hotel, The Hilton, Hacienda Beach Club, The Curve, and Caliente Tropics) but the Saguaro has been its primary home.

Trippy Turtle, Jai Wolf, Mija, Shiba San, Tokimonsta, Mark Johns, and many more talented artists were booked for the August event.  Even with the 100° weather, people were still ready to lay poolside, drink a beer or eight, and listen to amazing music with their friends. If you’re a Splash House or hotel pool party pro, then you know that booking a room with a balcony overlooking the pool is one of, if not, THE best spots for the event. Everyone is sporting his or her favorite swimsuit, shades, and smiles for both days straight.

Also, did I mention, Splash House is Floatie Heaven. From a giant soccer ball to turtles, sharks, donuts, and ice cream cone floaties, attendees come out in full floatie force.  You can even take your floatie on the shuttle ride with you between hotels. Yes, that’s right, they provide you an air-conditioned shuttle to each venue. That means, all you and your friends have to do when you go next year is book a room at one of the three hosting hotels and you’re all set; no DD required.

This weekend seemed to go smoother in regards to artists’ sets, rather than the June installment. In June, many of the laptop DJs were experiencing technical difficulties with their laptop overheating. The event promoters resolved this issue by adding a protective reflector. The only overheating moment we witnessed was during Big Wild’s set, however this didn’t negatively impact his set. Once this happened, he let his computer cool down and he moved to the front of the stage and started drumming for everyone to see.

We saw many amazing sets. Mija had one of the most packed sets, energizing the crowd, even though they had been dancing all day long… in desert heat. As I looked at the people in front of the stage and in the pool, the dancing and good vibes just kept going. Ultimately that’s all that Splash House is. It’s just good vibes, amazing music, your friends, beautiful colors, floaties, and giant pools.

When people from outside of California imagine what California is like, they are imagining Splash House even if they don’t know it.  Now, that the summer pool parties are coming to a close, we will just have to wait another year for another awesome time in Palm Springs.  Oh and remember for 2016, book a balcony room with a pool view. You won’t regret it!

Splash House Returns to Palm Springs June 13-14 & August 8-9

Splash House 2015

Splash House returns to Palm Springs June 13-14 and August 8-9 for its third year of intimate sun-drenched pool-side sets. It’s edgy and always on-point line-up has seen Splash House host the likes of Flume, Kaytranada, Kygo and Gorgon City well before they became festival headliners.

Splash House’s singular vibe has made it a treasured date in the Southern California calendar. Whether dancing bare-foot in the grass to Classixx or catching Eats Everything spin from a hotel room balcony in year one, watching festival headliners like Chromeo and Cut Copy tear up a pool party in year two, or perhaps witnessing one of the dozens of impromptu shuttle bus dance parties that have become synonymous with the event, Splash House has the feel of a clandestine summer-camp, with all of the magic that accompanies those endless summers of yesteryear.

This year Splash House will return to the Saguaro Hotel and Hacienda Beach Club, while also checking in at the Palm Springs Hilton for the first time. An expanded pool and grassy areas, plus additional pool-facing balconies to decorate for the now traditional ‘Splash House Best Balcony Contest’ made the Hilton a perfect new home for 2015.

Desert sunsets, palm trees, poolside dancing and the finest collision of fashion, music, and fun, make Splash House a weekender not to be missed. Opening Saturday through Sunday June 13-14 and August 8-9, ticket + two night hotel bundles start at $180 per person, with tickets starting at just $115.
